FWD was established in 2013 as the principal insurance business under the Pacific Century Group. Its shareholders include Swiss Re, GIC Ventures, RR Capital, and Hopu Investments. The company originated from ING's Asia insurance business, which was acquired by Pacific Century Group in 2012 and subsequently rebranded as FWD in 2013. Presently, FWD operates as a pan-Asian life insurance company with business activities spanning ten Asian markets, including Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, serving over 13 million clients. FWD conducts its operations under the regulatory framework of the Hong Kong Insurance Authority in several major Asian markets.
